Vike Vike is the winery of Simone Sedilesu. Located in the heart of Mamoiada, Sardinia; a striking town in the region’s central province of Nuoro, VikeVike is a tribute to his home territory of Mamoiada within Barbagia. Simone grew up in the vineyard, having learned viticulture and vinification from his father and grandfather, arguably two of the most important people in the wine region. Simone left Sardinia, earned a degree in oenology, worked in wine in South Africa, and returned to Mamoaida to start his winery in 2015. Simone farms 4.5 hectares of organic vineyards of Cannonau di Sardegna and Granazza (a distinct white native to Mamoiada), in this largely unknown region of Sardinia, producing 25,000 bottles annually.

All vineyards are vinified separately, allowing for the most distinct expression of Ghiradas — Mamoiada’s vineyard area classification system analogous to Etna’s Contradas. The Ghirada are unique portions of vineyards delimited by dry stone walls or Capezzagne. Each Ghirada represents a particular story of viticulture that has been handed down from generation to generation. Mamoiada has 6 subzones — Zona Nord (north), Zona Nord Est (north-east), Zona Est (east), Zona Sud (south), Zona Sud Ovest (south-west) and Zona Nord Ovest (north-west). These subzones are then inclusive of several Ghiradas. All of Simone’s vineyards are within the Zona Sud (south) — Fittiloghe, Gurguruo, and IstevèneFittiloghe is a 20 year old vineyard of Cannonau di Sardegna with southeastern exposure located at 700 meters elevation. Gurguruo is a 30 year old vineyard of Cannonau di Sardegna with northeastern exposure on granite and sand at 730 meters elevation. Istevene is a 105 year old vineyard of Cannonau di Sardegna with extremely low yields, vinified whole cluster. The Granazza, an indigenous white variety to the region, is from a variety of Simone’s vineyards with an average age of 50 years. All wines are vinified with indigenous yeast. Farming is organic and everything is done by hand.

VikeVike means Surprise Surprise’ or Look Look’ in the local dialect, as the hope is that the wines of Vike Vike invoke wonder and interest for the region. A hidden gem region with incredibly passionate rising star winemakers, the future of Mamoiada is insanely bright with firecrackers like Simone leading the charge.
