Gian Luca Colombo is native of Piedmont, from Langa, with a ferocious passion for farming, winemaking, and a long-term vision of what his estate will become. Colombo studied enology and became a prolific winemaking consultant throughout the Langhe and elsewhere in Italy before setting his roots in the far northeast of Barolo in the village of Roddi. It is here in Roddi, on the top of the MGA Bricco Ambrogio cru, where Colombo established his winery. Ambitious and forthright with his vision, Colombo openly states that he wants to be the best producer in Barolo. From building a brand new winery, to a true commitment to farming biodynamically and having a fully operational farm on property led by famous gardener of Piazza Duomo, Andrea Mastropietro, to seeking out the best sites in the region, there is no question that Gian Luca is turning over every stone to achieve his goal.

Colombo farms 8 hectares across 16 plots today throughout the Langhe, focused on Nebbiolo, Barbera, Pinot Nero, Dolcetto and Pelaverga. Colombo believes strongly that 90% of the work is in the vineyards, with an incredible attention given to soil health, biodiversity, and intensive study of climate trends and harvest development. In the winery, Colombo maintains this attention to detail. There is no formula or dogma and all decisions are dependent on the vintage. Nebbiolo and Baroli see extended maceration and aging in Austrian Stockinger barrel. Pinot Nero, Pelaverga, Barbera and Dolcetto see aging in a combination of Stockinger and terracotta amphorae. The wines of Gian Luca Colombo speak for themselves — precise, pure, detailed and intensely satisfying.
